Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Monte ("the app", "we", "us") is an iOS application that runs Monte Carlo simulations on financial portfolios. This policy explains what information the app handles and how. If you have questions, contact us at support@monte-financial-planner.com.
2. Information you provide
The app lets you enter the following information, which is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework:
- Stock tickers, weights, and balances for portfolios you build
- Financial goals (target retirement age, target spending, time horizons)
- Contribution and withdrawal schedules
- Saved simulation runs and their results
- Optional profile details you choose to enter (e.g., current age)
We do not transmit any of this information to our servers. It is not backed up to any service we control. If you delete the app, this information is removed from your device. If you enable iCloud backup for your device, your data may be included in your personal Apple iCloud backup, governed by Apple's privacy terms.
3. Data storage and encryption
Monte stores all your profile, portfolios, and simulation history locally
on your device. The underlying database is encrypted at rest using iOS's
hardware-backed file protection
(completeUntilFirstUserAuthentication). This means:
- Your data is encrypted using keys protected by the device's Secure Enclave.
- The data is inaccessible to other apps, attackers, or forensic tools while the device is powered off or hasn't been unlocked since reboot.
- When you unlock your device after reboot, Monte can read your data normally for the rest of the session.
Monte does not transmit your profile data, portfolio values, or simulation results off your device. The only data sent to our servers is the list of ticker symbols in your portfolio, used to fetch market prices.
Resetting your device or uninstalling Monte cryptographically erases the data.
4. Information we look up for you
When you add a ticker symbol or run a simulation, the app sends the ticker symbol (e.g., AAPL) to our market-data proxy hosted on Cloudflare Workers. The proxy returns public market data (current price, sector, dividend yield, historical price series) from Financial Modeling Prep.
What is sent in these requests:
- The ticker symbol being looked up
- Standard network metadata your device sends with any HTTPS request (IP address, user agent)
What is not sent:
- Your name, email address, or any account identifier
- The number of shares you hold or your portfolio balance
- Your goals, contributions, withdrawals, or simulation results
5. Analytics & diagnostics
The app uses Apple's standard crash reporting and diagnostics to help us fix bugs. You can disable diagnostic sharing system-wide under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on your device. We do not use third-party analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Facebook SDK).
6. Purchases and subscriptions
Pro and Max subscriptions are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles payment, billing, and your subscription record. We receive a transaction identifier so the app can verify your subscription status — we do not receive your name, email, or payment information. Refunds are handled by Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com.
7. Children's privacy
Monte is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
8. Third-party services we rely on
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — distribution, in-app purchases.
- Cloudflare Workers — hosts our market-data proxy that fetches public ticker data on your behalf.
- Financial Modeling Prep — upstream source of public market data.
9. Data retention
Data you create lives on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Our Cloudflare proxy may keep short-lived edge logs of incoming requests (typically 24 hours or less) for abuse prevention and uptime monitoring. These logs contain only request metadata — never personal data, because the app never sends any.
10. Your rights
Because the app does not maintain user accounts or store personal data on our servers, there is no profile for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. To exercise control over your data:
- Delete — remove a portfolio inside the app, or delete the app to wipe everything.
- Export — use the app's share feature on any simulation result.
- Inquire — email us at support@monte-financial-planner.com.
If you reside in the EU/UK (GDPR/UK-GDPR) or California (CCPA/CPRA), the rights granted by those laws apply to any personal data we do hold. As of this policy's date, that is limited to email correspondence you initiate and Apple-mediated subscription records.
Data deletion
To delete data Monte may hold beyond what's stored locally on your device, email support@monte-financial-planner.com with the subject "Data Deletion Request". We respond within 30 days.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced inside the app or on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
